Stolpen Castle

Posted by
daniela (Berlin, Germany) on 8 January 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

or Burg Stolpen was a stop on our holiday in saxony last year, which still makes me think.
First it has quite a long history, and it also is a monument of nature, for as you can see here it´s located on a hill - which has been a volcano a long time ago. therefor most of the hill is basalt, that also was - conveniently - the mainsource as building material for the castle.
It also is a sad place in the story of the Countess of Cosel who was prisoner there for 49 years.
I´ll try to bring the multitude of information in correlation with the images i did.
